FAMILIES battling debt problems during the pandemic are being urged to seek help from a local service.

Hope Community Church — working with Christians Against Poverty(CAP) — is offering assistance through its social action ministry i58.

Alistair McAlees, Inverclyde CAP debt centre manager, said: “It’s great that we can offer this service, while keeeping social distancing rules, as we know how much the people of Inverclyde are suffering at this time.

“We are also pleased to be able to report that we have seen our eighth client become debt-free since we started in 2016.

“It’s wonderful to see the positive impact CAP debt help is having on so many families and individuals in the area. I encourage anyone who needs help to give us a call.”

Mark, a 39-year-old father of three, said: “I got into debt after gambling and a relationship breakdown. I felt so low and anxious.

“I called CAP’s free phone number and with the help of their local debt coach and financial advisors at head office I’ve now become debt-free.

“They also got me a referral to Inverclyde Foodbank when food supplies ran out. I can’t thank CAP enough. It’s meant such a difference without the worry of debt.”

Those struggling with debt can call freephone 0800 328 0006 or visit capuk.org to book an appointment.
