Inverclyde Now Logo FOUR Options For Gourock Junction Set To Go Out For Public Consultation

19 October, 2020 | Local

PUBLIC consultation is set to take place over how to improve a busy Gourock junction.

Inverclyde Council received a petition, with almost 1,200 signatures, in 2019 calling for traffic lights at the junction of Larkfield Road, George Road and Hilltop Road.

Roads staff employed a consultant to carry out a transport assessment to see how traffic speed and vehicle turning conflicts could be reduced as well as making it safer for pedestrians crossing.

Various options were examined. An update by council roads officials state: “The junction and the topography of the surrounding area is challenging as has been highlighted by the number of options that have been considered and consequently discounted because they cannot feasibly be taken forward.”

“As part of the proposed public consultation, officers propose to outline what junction improvements they would make in an ideal world and highlight to members of the public the various constraints which rule this out including the presence of an electrical substation in the northwest corner, proximity of Lambeth Walk and driveways, etc.

The options that would be included in the consultation are:

— Full traffic light control of the junction

— Signalised pedestrian crossings

— Change of junction priority

–‘Uncontrolled’ pedestrian crossing upgrades

If the consultation is approved by councillors, it will be carried out online because of pandemic restrictions.
