FROM The Archive: Supermarket giant Asda announced in August 2012 that they were planning a 35,000 sq ft store in Greenock.
The £20m development was to have been on land between Campbell Street, Union Street and Brougham Street.
The Rileys snooker hall / Priyas Palace restaurant would have been demolished and the former railway bridge into the shipping terminal would have been removed as part of the plan.
Asda were going to acquire the land from owners Clydeport but scrapped the whole project in February 2013 saying they no longer considered it commercially viable.
The land remains undeveloped.
