GREENOCK is welcoming five cruise ships in four days — beginning on Saturday (15 July) with a return visit by Disney Magic.

The 84,000-tonne Disney Cruise Line ship, which drew crowds on the Esplanade last year for its first visit to the Clyde, berthed at the Ocean Terminal, around 7.30am, in from Liverpool, and is expected to leave, bound for Stornoway at 7.15pm (although times can change at short notice). There is no public access to the ship.

The ship can carry 2,700 passengers and has 950 crew. Attractions on board include the Walt Disney Theatre which seats almost 1,000 people and has live original productions, plus a 280-seat cinema — the Buena Vista Theatre.

The vessel is painted in Mickey Mouse-inspired colours – black hull, white superstructure, yellow trim and two giant red funnels — and the ship’s horn can play the first seven notes of the “When You Wish Upon a Star” song melody.

On Sunday (16 July), the 46,000-tonne Magellan, operated by Cruise and Maritime Voyages, comes to Greenock for the first time. The ship is scheduled to arrive in from Liverpool about 8am and leave, heading for Tobermory, at 7pm.

Regular visitor, the 113,000-tonne Caribbean Princess is back on Monday (17 July).

Finally, two cruise ships will be at the port on Tuesday (18 July) — the 63,700-tonne Columbus, making its Clyde debut, and the 30,000-tonne Adonia.

Columbus, which is also operated by Cruise and Maritime Voyages, is due to be at the terminal from around 8am to 6pm. Adonia, operated by P&O Cruises, is also expected to be at Greenock from early morning to early evening.
