FITNESS Chain Revives Plan For Super-Gym At Greenock Retail Park

A NATIONAL operator is pressing ahead with opening a super-gym in Greenock.

JD Gyms is now advertising the 30,000-square-foot fitness facility that will take up most of two of the units at the Waterfront Retail Park — just yards from Inverclyde Leisure’s flagship Waterfront complex.

The plan was originally proposed by Xercise4Less which went into administration last year.

The company was bought over by JD Gyms which has started promoting the Greenock gym on its website.

It states: “When launched in spring, JD Gyms Greenock will be a state-of-the-art facility with the very best fitness equipment, studios, a JD Burn area, saunas in our luxury changing rooms and a sprint and prowler track. Plus vast free weights and functional areas.”

There will be more than 200 pieces of equipment and a full schedule of classes.

Opening hours will be Monday to Friday, between 6am and 10pm, and Saturday/Sunday between 8am and 8pm.

Planning permission to change the use of the whole of unit six and most of unit five at the retail park, including putting an extra level over much of the ground floor, was given in 2019.
