EVENTFUL Week For Morton Ends In Humiliating Defeat Putting Them Bottom Of League

11 December, 2021 | Morton, Sport

MORTON were thrashed by Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Cappielow, the sides clashing after a week of controversy over facilities for away teams at the Greenock ground.

The visitors won the league match 6:1, more than making up for their loss to Morton on penalties in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday.

Inverness had threatened to pull out of today’s match after their experience of the stadium’s temporary facilities for visiting teams earlier in the week.

The pressure prompted Morton to allow use of the ground’s gym resulting in the Sinclair Street End being unavailable for fans and the Cowshed only being accessible from the Wee Dublin End.

The improved conditions seemed to help Inverness who chalked up a resounding victory.

Morton went behind from an own goal in the 15th minute and conceded again in the 33rd and 43rd minutes.

Gozie Ugwu scored Morton’s only goal, from a penalty, at the end of the first half. The Greenock side’s misery was compounded by letting in three more goals in the second half.

Morton, who sacked their manager last weekend, are now bottom of the Championship, a point behind Queen of the South and Dunfermline, and two behind Ayr United.
