ENERGY Park With 700 Solar Panels Proposed For Inverclyde Countryside

24 April, 2025 | Local

A LEADING renewable energy developer has launched plans for a large solar energy facility in Inverclyde.

Renewco Power is developing proposals for Knocknair Renewable Energy Park which would include 25MW of solar panels and a 24.9MW battery energy storage system (BESS) facility.

The development would be 1.5km south east of Greenock and 0.5km south of Port Glasgow, near Devol Moor, south of Dougliehill Road. It would have around 700 solar panels.

Renewco say it would play a vital role in Scotland’s green energy transition and journey towards decarbonisation.

The company add that local businesses and suppliers would gain from significant opportunities throughout the construction and operation of the energy park.

There would also be a community benefit fund.

A public consultation event takes place on Wednesday 7 May, from 3 to 7pm, at Port Glasgow Town Hall.

Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions, discuss the initial proposals and gather feedback.

Richard Koiak, chief development officer at Renewco Power, said:

“We are delighted to be bringing forward proposals for Knocknair Renewable Energy Park. As Scotland makes the journey towards net zero, solar is an essential component in facilitating the transition.

“Community feedback is essential for us to create a development which is effective both for us and the community.”

Renewco are also encouraging online feedback via their website which will be updated with virtual consultation boards from 7 May.
