A NEW 14-bay ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub has gone live in Greenock.
It has been installed by on Cartsburn Street, opposite Victoria Harbour, by Source and features six 150-kilowatt chargers which, based on industry accepted data, allow users to ‘charge and go’ in around 15 minutes.
Two of the bays have been built to meet accessibility standards.
Drivers can use contactless payment on the terminals or download the SourceConnect app.
Deepa Chandrasekaran, managing director at Source, said: “The electric vehicle industry has reached a turning point, and we’re here to lead it into uncharted territories. Our ambition is to capture 20 per cent of the UK and Ireland’s ultra-rapid market by delivering hubs that are easy to find, easy to use, and built for the future.”
Transport secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “To reduce transport emissions and protect the climate, the Scottish Government is committed to phasing out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. We can only do this if people have confidence in the availability of charging infrastructure — and that can only be achieved through private investment.
“With private investment we can grow the network with the pace and scale required to meet our commitment to see approximately 24,000 additional public charge points added by 2030.”
