A POLICE officer was allegedly bitten by a man he was helping to arrest in Greenock.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated male kicking doors and causing a disturbance at a property on Inverkip Street, about 9.30pm on Saturday.

A 40-year-old man they traced allegedly became abusive and aggressive.

As he was being detained, he allegedly struggled, biting one officer to the hand.

Area commander Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: “This is a disgraceful incident whereby an Inverclyde police officer has allegedly been bitten whilst trying to protect the communities of Inverclyde.

“I am sure the public will be shocked to see our officers treated in such an unacceptable manner.”
