REMNANTS of the original frontage of an old Greenock cinema are emerging as demolition of the former Babylon nightclub continues.

The building on Argyle Street at West Stewart Street opened as the BB Cinema in January 1913 with 950 seats.

In 1935 it was enlarged and alterations were made including a plain facade.

The cinema closed in the early 1970s and became a bingo hall.

Babylon nightclub opened in the 1990s.

The demolition has already unearthed a colourful ‘Egyptian mummy’ from the building’s nightclub days.

The site is being lined up for housing.
