7 April, 2026 | Local

GREENOCK Cricket Club is gearing up for a busy season with three senior teams in action and a revitalised junior set-up.

The 1st XI and 2nd XI (Glenpark) will be playing Saturday league cricket and also competing in midweek cup matches.

The 3rd XI (Hillend) will play in the Western Sunday League Division One, having won Division Two in 2025, and also the
Midweek League Division Three.

Greenock 1st XI will also seek to defend the Cricket Scotland Men’s Challenge Cup which they won in 2025 by defeating Edinburgh CC in the final. The team has been given a tough draw in Round One with a long road trip north to face Aberdeenshire Grades team Crescent on Sunday 24 May.

Aryan Sanghera continues as 1st XI team captain with Cammy Calder vice-captain. The 2nd XI will once again be led by Eddie Ahmad, and the 3rd XI will be captained by Rakesh Kumar.

Two young Australian amateur cricketers will join the club for the summer and will be key players for the side. They will shortly arrive in Greenock and should be available for the two pre-season friendly matches against Irvine (Saturday 18 April) and Helensburgh (Saturday 25 April).

All-rounder Adam McGuirk is from New South Wales. He is a top batsman having scored almost 1,000 runs for his club in the season just finished in Australia. He was captain of the Australian Emus who toured Scotland in summer 2025.

Toby Matthews is from the Brisbane area of Queensland. He is an off-spinner and plays for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club in the Queensland Premier Cricket League. Just recently, he contributed a match-winning 82 runs in his side’s end-of-season Premiership Final victory.

Greenock 1st XI open the league season away to Langside on Saturday 2 May.

New players, including beginners, are welcome to go along to sessions at the club’s ground at Glenpark.

Senior training evenings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.15pm

Junior cricket, for players eight years of age to 18, is also available, and training for these players is on Wednesdays from 6pm from Wednesday 22 April. Equipment is supplied by the club.

The Junior Cricket section is being revitalised and given a re-brand with junior cricketers to be known as the Greenock Titans. The aim is to attract a new
generation of players to the club. Junior cricketers will wear coloured kit featuring the new Greenock Titans logo.
