Inverclyde Now Logo CRICKET — The Weather Wins Again…But Greenock Are Safe

19 August, 2019 | Local

GREENOCK’S place in the Premier Division was secured without a ball being bowled.

The 1st XI’s Premier Division away game with Stirling County was called off because of the rain that has fallen in the past few weeks.

With Drumpellier’s game against Clydesdale also being cancelled for the same reason, Greenock’s place in the Premier Division is safe, irrespective of what happens in the last round of league matches next weekend when Greenock play Poloc at Glenpark and Drumpellier are away to East Kilbride.

Only two matches in the Premier Division did manage to get some play, but both were eventually abandoned with no result.

Greenock 2nd XI’s (Glenpark) Fourth Division game against West of Scotland’s Hamilton Crescent XI, which was played at Glenpark, did go ahead and they secured a fine win over the Glasgow side by 83 runs.

Batting first, the Glenpark XI knocked up 169 for 8 in their 40 overs with the very promising young Cammy Calder top-scoring with 53.

In reply, Hamilton Crescent were never really in the hunt and were bowled out for 86, Tom Forrest taking 4 for 9 and the evergreen Dave Sharma 3 for 22.
