GREENOCK Cricket Club’s young player Sean Fischer-Keogh was the star of Scotland’s side in their second match of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
Brought into the side after not featuring in the opening match of the tournament against Pakistan, Fischer-Keogh batted at number 11 and scored 3 not out as his team could only muster a total of 89 in the game against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom.
But as opening bowler, Fischer-Keogh’s pace put Scotland very much in the match early in the Bangladesh innings.
Playing in his first ever one-day international, Fischer-Keogh took a wicket with the very first ball of the Bangladesh innings and followed up with another two wickets in his four-over spell.
He was the only Scotland bowler to gain any wickets as Bangladesh eventually overtook the Scotland score with only the three wickets down.
Fischer-Keogh is the first Scottish player to take a wicket with the first ball of an international career.
Scotland next play against Zimbabwe on Saturday in Potchefstroom.
