CRICKET — Inverclyde’s Season To Get Underway

3 June, 2021 | Sport

INVERCLYDE Cricket Club play their first competitive match since 2019 this weekend.

The Western District Cricket Union has given the go-ahead for cricket in the west of Scotland to restart after the Government announced that Glasgow will move to covid level two from Saturday.

Uncertainty over how many teams would be able and willing to compete in the league meant the previous leagues three and four have been combined this season, which will mean tough competition for the Inverclyde side.

After several weeks of practice, the club’s players are keen to resume competitive cricket after missing the full 2020 season.

They meet Hughenden in a home fixture.

The pool of players available for selection includes: Captain Gareth James, Ross Blair, Stuart Callison, Dave Cooke, Chris Dick, Cammy Gunn, Billy Hair, Tommy McDade, Thomas McInnes, Dave Mudie, Douglas Pilkington, Paul Singh, Ethan Singh, David Thomson.
