CRICKET: Greenock Favourites To Beat Glasgow Accies

GREENOCK are at home on Saturday against Glasgow Accies who have yet to record a win in this season’s Western Premiership Two league programme.

The Glenpark team have one win and one loss and will be favourites to add a second win.

Accies were on the end of a 219-run thrashing from Dumfries on the opening Saturday when the two sides met at New Anniesland. And last Saturday when Accies made the trip across to the south side of the city they were bowled out for 110 by Langside who then knocked off the runs for the loss of just three wickets in a little more than 25 overs.

At Dumfries last Saturday, Greenock fielded a significantly understrength side because of work and family commitments and put on a poor batting display, scoring only 107 runs.

Despite the low total, Greenock’s bowlers did manage to capture seven wickets and very nearly pulled off a win as Dumfries struggled to reach their 108-run target.

This Saturday, Shailesh Prabhu and Harry Briggs are once again available and their inclusion should bolster the batting line-up.But out of the side go Cammy Calder and Chirag Pandher through work commitments. Inam Khan replaces Vishal Yadav.

Greenock’s 2nd XI Glenpark play Glasgow High/Kelvinside 3rd XI Crow Road at Old Anniesland, Glasgow on Saturday afternoon. The team will be from: M Ahmad, S Chaudhary, A Afzal, R Kumar, S Harsha, H Safi, E Norris, V Yadav, Zabi Ullah, M Kochai, S Hussain, A Wakily. 12th man

Midweek Cricket Washout: In midweek, the wet weather put paid to the Greenock 1st XI McCulloch Cup match away to Kelburne and also the 2nd XI Western Cup match away to Helensburgh.

New players: Anyone interested in playing for the club is welcome to go along to practice sessions at Glenpark on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm until 8.30pm
