CRICKET: Another Blank Saturday For Greenock Sides

7 July, 2025 | Local

WET weather forced yet more league match cancellations for Greenock’s cricket teams.

The 1st XI and 2nd XI teams have now had five Saturday league matches washed out by rain.

The forecast for the coming week is much more promising and should allow the 1st XI match v Glasgow Accies at Glenpark and the 2nd XI match away to Milngavie to take place on this coming Saturday.

Hillend XI: Greenock’s third XI, Hillend, were able to play their Sunday League fixture against Irvine Spartans and gained a win which maintained their 100 per cent record in the competition.

Batting first, Spartans scored 126, all out. For Hillend, Mo Dilpory returned the top bowling figures by taking three wickets for 19 runs from six overs bowled.

In reply, Hillend won comfortably scoring 129 for the loss of six wickets. Cammy Calder (34 not out) and Mo Zeeshan (32 not out) both retired not out to allow some others in the batting line-up to have an opportunity to score some runs.

The Hillend XI have just two more Sunday League fixtures to play. Later in July, the team will travel to play Stenhousemuir, and in August they will play Ferguslie at Glenpark. On Wednesday, they have a Midweek League match in Glasgow against GHK Crow Road.

Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup: Greenock’s quarter-final opponents in the Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup are Dunfermline Carnegie. The match is this Sunday at Glenpark with a 1pm start.
