A MIXED use development, including petrol station with shop plus business units, proposed for an empty car showroom in Greenock, has been given planning consent.

The application for the vacant former Arnold Clark premises on the A8 Port Glasgow Road includes demolishing the workshop area and converting the showroom building.

Councillors on Inverclyde Planning Board today approved the proposal.

Planning officials had recommended it be given the go ahead. Their report stated: “The form and appearance of the development are considered appropriate and, having fully assessed the proposal inclusive of implications for traffic, parking, flooding and drainage, the development is considered acceptable.”

A document included with the planning application stated: “The concept of the proposed development is to regenerate a prominent vacant commercial site and bring new commercial use and business to the area.

“The proposal is for a mix of uses associated with current and future roadside convenience needs and will be operated by familiar brands — BP and Shell are very interested to site here to serve customers.

“The development will also retain new purpose-built business (office) space which will be leased to target the small/medium enterprise (SME) business start-up market.”

It continued: “Grove Retail Ltd has successfully redeveloped several prominent roadside sites within Scotland and across the UK. Its model marries an offer combining petrol station requirements along with convenience shopping and other service needs such as (in this case) automated jet wash, laundry and electric vehicle charging facilities.”
