Inverclyde Now Logo COUNCIL TO Look Into 20mph Speed Limit In Housing Areas

25 September, 2020 | Local

INVERCLYDE Council officials are to draw up a report looking at options for a 20mph traffic speed limit in the district’s residential areas.

Councillors requested more information about the idea following a request by Councillor Chris Curley.

He put a motion to a full meeting of the council urging a 20mph limit be adopted as the default in housing areas.

Councillor Curley said cutting traffic speed leads to a significant reduction in the likelihood of accidents and related injuries and that high traffic speed puts people off active travel in urban settings.

The council stopped short of agreeing the principle of a 20mph speed limit but agreed to get more information about the suggestion.
