WORK on two major pre-five developments in Inverclyde is expected to start in the next couple of months.

Council officials say construction of a 100-pupil early years centre in Larkfield, Greenock, is due to begin in mid-October and be completed in July 2021.

The single-storey facility will be built at Stafford Road on the site of the former Larkfield No.2 Social Club. The existing Larkfield Children’s Centre, which is located within a wing of the adjacent former Sacred Heart School, will relocate to the new building.

It will cater for 64 three to five-year-olds, 30 two to three-year-olds and six children aged two and under.

Meanwhile, work on a 64-pupil extension at Rainbow Family Centre in Oronsay Avenue, in Port Glasgow, is scheduled to start this month and be finished in May/June 2021.

The single-storey extension will cater for three to five-year-olds.

The £4.6million investment has been fudned through the Scottish Government’s initiative to increase the entitlement of early learning and childcare from 600 hours to 1,140 hours a year.
