Inverclyde Now Logo CORONAVIRUS — Volunteer Recruitment In Inverclyde Ramps Up

31 March, 2020 | Local

EFFORTS to recruit volunteers to help those in need in Inverclyde during the coronavirus pandemic are continuing.

Volunteer Inverclyde, the dedicated volunteering service from CVS Inverclyde, is urging out to people to register at www.volunteerinverclyde.com.

The Shielding Service is calling on staff and volunteers from third and private sector organisations who have a current PVG membership, to support the most vulnerable people with everything from collecting and delivering prescriptions, shopping or food parcels, to telephone befriending and wellbeing checks. This effort is being co-ordinated by the Community Link Workers and local COVID-19 community groups.

NHS Volunteer Support is looking for people from all walks of life to be based in Inverclyde Royal Hospital, on an ‘if and when’ needs basis, to help in a variety of ways. Roles, which might change daily depending on need, will include filing, taking telephone calls, help with meals and drinks, replenishing ward supplies and running errands. They are looking for people with good communication skills and a caring, compassionate nature, able to deal with stressful situations. This is being coordinated by the Volunteer Inverclyde team.

The Volunteer Inverclyde site is also being used to capture details of people able to provide support to the many local voluntary organisations working at capacity during COVID-19.

People can pledge their support by contacting the Volunteer Inverclyde team on 01475 711733 or admin@cvsinverclyde.org.uk. T:

“So many people have approached us, eager to volunteer during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Charlene Elliott, chief executive officer, CVS Inverclyde. “That’s such a positive reflection on our caring community here in Inverclyde.

“We’ve been able to tap into the broad expertise of our team and utilise our dedicated Volunteer Inverclyde website, as well as benefit from the strong community connections in place thanks to our Community Link Workers and Our Place Our Future teams. We are all working closely with partner organisations and local community groups, to co-ordinate efforts and enable a robust response.

“While we have many people on board already, we are ramping up our volunteer recruitment to focus on specific areas –- the Shielding Service, NHS Volunteer Support and Inverclyde Helpers for voluntary organisations across Inverclyde.

“People may not be needed immediately but should pledge their support now by registering at www.volunteerinverclyde.com. Volunteers can be reassured that their details will only be accessed by trusted organisations.

“It’s wonderful to see how much people care for others through these challenging times. There has never been a truer statement right now than ‘we are all in this together’.”
