Inverclyde Now Logo TEA Party Charity Helping Older People In Inverclyde Needs Volunteers

21 March, 2017 | Noticeboard

A CHARITY which offers a lifeline of friendship to older people who live alone in the Inverclyde area is appealing for volunteers.

Contact the Elderly in Scotland organises free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties. It currently needs an additional host and driver in the Greenock and Gourock area to help these parties to continue.

A volunteer driver collects a guest from their home, accompanies them to the tea party, then takes them safely home one Sunday afternoon a month.

A volunteer host provides an afternoon and warm welcome to a group of up to eight people once or twice a year.

Caroline McGinlay, support officer at Contact the Elderly, said: “The parties in Inverclyde are well-loved by guests and volunteers.

“We need to bolster our volunteer numbers in the area to ensure these parties, which people have really come to rely upon, can be guaranteed to take place each month.

“We are appealing for volunteers who could spare just a few hours once a month, or even just once a year, to get in touch to find out how they could make a true difference to the lives of older people living in Greenock and Gourock.”
