DETECTIVES have appealed for witnesses after a man was attacked in Greenock.

A householder in the McLeod Street area, near Craigend Resource Centre, called police after seeing a disturbance involving two men around 9.25 last night.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “The victim was being struck with a pole or a golf club on the arms and body. This was a targeted attack.”

The injured man was treated in hospital. He suffered a broken knuckle bone and a chipped bone on one of his arms.

Police are treating the incident as a serious assault and urge any witnesses to call them on 101.
