Inverclyde Now Logo NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Looking For New Board Members

27 December, 2018 | Noticeboard

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is looking for people from Inverclyde with the necessary skills or experience to consider joining its board.

Those interested don’t need to be health experts or have previous board experience.

NHSGGC Chairman John Brown said: “Being a non-executive director on our board is a rewarding and challenging opportunity.

“It’s a large board -– in fact it’s the largest single health authority in the UK –- with big responsibilities to help steer the strategic development of NHSGGC to deliver safe and sustainable patient care to more than one million people.

“We are looking for people from all walks of life who have an interest in health. Some of our members bring experience from their own respective area of expertise, such as social work or as community workers. Others have a financial or education background. Some members are retired healthcare professionals or have held senior civil servant positions. We’ve also benefited from the experience of retired chartered accountants and retired church leaders.”

The board currently has 35 non-executive directors -– all appointed by the cabinet secretary for health and well-being — and they usually serve for a minimum of four years.

Mr Brown added: “Applicants can be assured that there’s plenty of support to bring new board members up to speed with the complexities of NHSGGC -– an organisation which employs 38,000 staff and delivers all aspects of community and hospital healthcare. It’s a great ongoing development opportunity to be part of one of the most important public sector organisations in Scotland.”

The time commitment required can vary, but is usually about three days a month. Board members receive about £8,400 a year and essential travel expenses are covered.
