A LOCAL charity group is hosting a free multiple sclerosis (MS) information event to shine a light on the condition as part of MS Awareness Week.

The MS Society Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Group are holding the event on Saturday 27 April at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock.

Scotland has one of the highest rates of MS in the world with more than 11,000 people across the country living with the condition.

Janice Bruce, MS Society Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Group co-ordinator, said: “Our MS Society group is all about offering support and services to people in the area living with MS. We’re delighted to be hosting this event with some interesting speakers on a few key topics for living well with MS.”

Speakers will talk about exercise, treatments and carers. Attendees will be offered a light lunch.

More than 600 people are diagnosed with MS in Scotland each year. The condition is unpredictable and different for everyone and can affect how people walk, see, think and feel.

MS Society Scotland director, Morna Simpkins, said: “Our local groups play a vital role in offering services and support to people in their area with MS whether they are newly diagnosed or have been living with MS for longer.

“This is just another is great example of how our supporters work non-stop to inform people and grow their support for the MS community.”
