Inverclyde Now Logo HELP Turn The Tide On Litter At Lunderston Bay

VOLUNTEERS are needed for a beach clean being held at Lunderston Bay on Saturday (16 September).

Clyde Muirshiel Park rangers have organised the event which starts at 11am at the bay, on Cloch Road, near Gourock.

It is being held in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean Weekend to record and tackle marine litter.

Ranger Kathleen McMillan said: “The last couple of beach cleans have seen a good number of local people contributing to the national and global beach clean survey and helping us to turn the tide on litter.

“We are hoping to break our volunteer record and exceed more than 50 volunteers taking part in this event.”

She added: “Some of our best-loved marine wildlife is under threat from the waste and litter in our seas, with hundreds of species accidentally eating or becoming entangled in it. It’s also dangerous for people and damaging to our tourism and fishing industries.

The event is open to all ages and all equipment is provided.
