SCOTTISH Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs, in partnership with local people and organisations in Inverclyde, is hosting a family-friendly event on Saturday 27 October in Greenock.

There will be fun and games, free refreshments, and prizes for dressing up It’s all about fun, friendship and connecting to community. It takes place at Upper Larkfield Community Hall, Lothian Road from 1 to 4pm.

A spokesman for Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs said: “We asked families what matters to them and what we could do together about it. Families said ‘many people are just completely disconnected’ and ‘we shouldn’t be hidden, we should be visual and vocal.’

“Families talked to us about the transformative impact of social contact and connections with others in similar situations.

“With thanks to the Big Lottery Awards for All fund, we are aiming to engage 500 people over ten events like this one across Scotland.

“The event is open to all and has been shaped by local partners, families affected and community members.

“We hope that these events will begin to shape a new movement for change. We hope that wider and stronger networks amongst families and in community will help build new connections; create opportunities in conversation to share experiences, learning and ideas; and create social change.”
