COUNCIL Set To Approve £4.65Million One-Off Funding For ProjectsINVERCLYDE Council’s budget working group has drawn up a list of one-off spending plans including £2.5million for regeneration of town centres, funding towards a possible indoor tennis facility and a project to make the area an Autism-Friendly Community.
The cross-party group, which represents 14 of Inverclyde’s 20 councillors, will be recommending the investment list is agreed at the full council budget meeting on 16 February.
Inverclyde Council leader and chairman of the budget group Stephen McCabe said:”I’m sure these proposals will be welcomed across the community.”
The £2.5million town centre regeneration would be split between Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow with most of it being targeted at Greenock town centre. Mr McCabe said priority projects would be drawn up in consultation with the three town centre regeneration forums.
Other spending proposed includes:
— £500,000 to support a range of employability initiatives, including the creation of apprenticeship opportunities.
— A £1million Anti-Poverty Fund for a range of initiatives to support individuals and families.
— £150,000 extra for grants to voluntary organisations
— £150,000 to support a new initiative to make Inverclyde an Autism-Friendly Community, building on the existing local autism strategy and the work of voluntary groups like Reach for Autism.
— £350,000 match funding for a bid to the Scottish Government for a new indoor sports facility suitable for tennis.
The only councillors not involved in the cross party budget working group are the SNP ones who withdrew their representation at the end of last year.
