Inverclyde Now Logo ARREST After Alleged Attempted Murder In Greenock Street

A 42-YEAR-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a street disturbance in Greenock. 

He was arrested by police yesterday and is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court today.

The incident happened in Nelson Street at Newton Street around 12.40am (Sunday).

One man, aged 24, suffered “significant” injuries. Detective Inspector Tom Carty said yesterday: “He needed emergency surgery and has been admitted to the high dependency unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.”

The man’s condition was today (Monday) described a stable.

Two other men — aged 42 and 20 — were hurt and also needed hospital treatment.

Detectives say their inquiries are continuing.
