EMERGENCY services were called to the Clyde near Gourock Ferry Terminal following a report of a distress flare being seen.
Police attended alongside partners including HM Coastguard and an RNLI lifeboat just after 10pm on Thursday.
A search was carried out but no vessels or individuals were traced.
