CENTRAL Greenock Street Closing For Work To Switch Travel Direction

6 April, 2021 | Local, Noticeboard

WORK to reverse the one-way section of a Greenock town centre street is to take place over the weekend.

Bruce Street will be closed to through traffic from 6pm on Friday (9 April) to 10am on Monday (12 April) while the change is carried out.

Inverclyde Council is altering the direction of travel which will mean that traffic can turn into Bruce Street from Inverkip Street.

A report by officials that was previously presented to Inverclyde councillors stated: “The council has received a number of requests in recent years asking for Bruce Street, Greenock to be made a two-way street as it was prior to the closure of the rail bridge on the A78 Inverkip Street.

“A review of the road layout showed that it was not possible for the road to be made two-way due to road safety concerns and the turning circle required for larger vehicles.

“In order to improve access to Roxburgh Street and the area to the south of Bruce Street, the Roads Service approached Transport Scotland and it was agreed that the flow of vehicles on the existing section of one-way northwestbound road should be reversed to allow vehicles to travel from the A78 Inverkip Street into Bruce Street.”
