CAR parks at a number of parks and open spaces across Inverclyde have been closed, including beauty spots such as Lunderston Bay and Greenock Cut.

Inverclyde Council said the measure was required to support the current coronavirus stay-at-home guidance.

The car parks are at Lunderston Bay, Parklea, Battery Park, Inverkip, Greenock Cut Centre, above, and Overton Road car park.

Playground equipment and play areas are also currently closed to reduce the potential for transference of the virus from the surfaces.

People are being told not to travel to access the outdoors and that exercising should done close to home.

The council issued a statement saying: “While many parks and open spaces remain open to walkers, the aim of this action is to limit the number of people travelling to parks and open spaces by car and breaching the stay-at-home guidance.

“During this unprecedented time, these facilities should be considered out of bounds to anyone who does not live within short walking distance.”
