BUILDER Chosen For Delayed Greenock Cruise Ship Centre

A NEW contractor has been appointed to construct a landmark cruise terminal on Greenock’s Waterfront.

Work halted at the site in 2020 after construction firm CBC were put into administration.

The £6.2million contract has now been awarded by Inverclyde Council to Heron Bros of Draperstown, Northern Ireland.

Four companies put in bids for the work.

When planning permission for the centre was given in April 2019, the council said it was due for completion in 2020.

It was hoped the new contractor would start work in February with completion by the end of March 2022, however that timetable is already a couple of months behind.

The structure will have an arrivals/departure wing, a gallery dedicated to the works of sculptor George Wyllie and a first-floor restaurant.
