NEW Village Can Be Developed At Power Station Site

DEVELOPMENT of the former Inverkip Power Station site — including hundreds of homes — has been approved.

Inverclyde Planning Board voted narrowly to agree the proposal today. Five councillors were in favour and five wanted a site visit; the application got the go-ahead on the chairman’s casting vote.

ScottishPower are proposing a new village — Brueacre Village — with up to 650 homes, a village centre with retail, community facilities, and high-quality open spaces, including a public park and a network of foot and cycle paths.

The existing road network will be upgraded, including a new roundabout on the A78, which will form the main access to the site, and there will be an upgraded junction at Inverkip North/Kip Marina.

There were around 230 objections, many of them over traffic concerns. Planners had recommended that the proposal be approved.

Councillor David Wilson said it was “probably the most exciting application” to have been considered by the planning board during his time as chairman.

Aspects such as layout, scale, appearance and landscape will have to be subject of further, detailed, planning applications.
