ARDGOWAN Club, Greenock, held their annual open triples competition.

Teams from Dunoon, Garelochhead, Rothesay and Houston as well as local clubs took part.

Following completion of the group stages, three teams from Garelochhead and teams representing Victoria, Gourock Park, Rothesay, Wellington Park and a team from the host club had qualified for the knockout rounds.

The ties in the quarter-finals were closely-fought games, with the encounter between two of the Garelochhead clubs being settled in the last end.

The semi-finals were tense affairs which saw Victoria defeat Wellington Park, scoring two shots at the last end to win by a single shot, and Garelochead defeating Gourock Park.

In the final the team from Garelochhead (A Fleming, P Doolan and skip A Roy jnr) were up against Victoria (J Rorrison, R Davidson and skip W Simpson) who were former winners of the competition.

Neither side dropped the standards that they had set during the day.

President Brian Lindsay, with the Victoria team, Jim Rorrison, Robert Davidson and Billy Simpson.

Victoria secured victory after racing into a seven-shot lead after only three ends; in a reduced ends game, the team from Garelochhead found it hard to fight back, although they did score three shots without reply in the remainder of the ends.
