COUNCILLORS have agreed that a battery energy storage facility can be installed in countryside near Greenock.

Inverclyde Planning Board gave permission for Big Battery Company (Flatterton) Ltd to put 13 containerised battery storage units with associated equipment, in a field beside Flatterton Farm.

It will be decommissioned after 40 years and the land restored to its former state.

The site will be connected by underground cable to the electricity grid.

Battery storage facilities allow energy from renewable sources, like wind farms, to be stored and then released when the power is needed most.
