ATHLETICS — Sprinter Back In Action As Pandemic Rules Ease

18 May, 2021 | Sport

TOP local sprinter Georgia Morrison is back on track after nearly a two-year lay-off.

Accepting Scottish Athletic invitation for an Elite competition at Kilmarnock recently, Georgia headed to Ayrshire with the plan of testing how lockdown had impacted fitness and racing processes.

Atrocious wind and rain put paid to super quick times and Georgia focused instead on being competitive and getting the feeling of pushing mind and body to previous competition levels.

A solid start and a relaxed back straight into a strong head wind reserved enough energy to increase pace around the last bend.

Approaching the home straight, Georgia’s deceptive relaxed style brought her home to record an encouraging result after the long lay-off.

Georgia then accepted an invitation to contest the Stirling University Track match to continue her return to racing.

With improved weather conditions, Georgia was out of the blocks and into her running in a more determined fashion.

Cruising into the back straight, she had opened up a lead, hitting the halfway mark very quickly.

Negotiating the final bend she held speed to allow her to dig deep into her reserves to cross the line some two seconds faster than the previous race in Kilmarnock and the fastest female of the day.

With the relaxing of pandemic restrictions, Georgia will now focus on a return to her development plan.
