GOUROCK student Georgia Morrison secured another podium position as she got her outdoor season off to a successful start.

Georgia won silver in the Scottish University track and field championships held at Grangemouth stadium.

She represented Strathclyde University in the women’s 400 metres aiming to emulate her success as bronze medal winner in the indoor 400 metres event.

In her heat racing from the outside lane, Georgia was quickly into her stride for the first half of the race, leading the heat into the home straight, maintaining this position to claim a lane in the final.

With a very short recovery time, Georgia took her lane in the final and was up and contesting the leaders heading down the back straight.

Georgia increased speed on the final bend which had her a few strides in front as the athletes reached the last 100 metres.

Challenging the head wind as well as her competitors, Georgia remained focused crossing the line in a photo-finish.

Georgia was awarded the silver medal, earning another national championship winners’ podium visit.

Georgia now makes the journey to London in the coming weeks to represent Strathclyde University at the British University Championships.
