AN Inverclyde community group has received a £1,500 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Gourock

The Inverclyde Shed provides recreational facilities to advance the social needs, health and wellbeing of people living in Inverclyde and also encourages its members to share their skills and knowledge with others.

The money will go towards two projects — a new orchard space being created at The Inverclyde Shed’s community garden at Shore Street, Gourock, and the Digital Shed, which is providing a distance working model for people to make things digitally during the covid pandemic, keeping people safe whilst helping them develop skills.

Lorna Sharples, site leader at Amazon in Gourock, said: “We admire the work that The Inverclyde Shed is doing to reduce isolation for members of our community, and we’re pleased to offer them this donation.

“There is a real need for communities to band together right now, and The Inverclyde Shed is providing a safe space for people in Inverclyde to work on new skills in the company of like-minded peers.”

Bruce Newlands, chairperson from The Inverclyde Shed, added: “A big thank-you goes to our friends at Amazon for providing us with this donation.

“Community sheds have been proven to help tackle issues such as depression and anxiety, so we are very encouraged to have a company like Amazon behind us in our efforts to support the mental health of the people of Inverclyde.”
