A MAN was chased by police and arrested after an alleged attempted armed robbery at a shop in Greenock’s West End this morning.

The incident happened around 9.45am at the Kinniburgh Post Office/newsagent premises in Brisbane Street.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “A male entered the Post Office, allegedly presented a firearm or an imitation firearm at the two members of staff and demanded the till be opened.

“He fled the shop empty-handed. Police attended immediately and pursued a male who was apprehended nearby.

“A handgun has been recovered and will be the subject of forensic examination.”

A 25-year-old man has been detained in connection with the incident.
