THREE men were arrested for alleged possession of knives following separate incidents in Greenock.

Police had reason to stop and search a 44-year-old on Sinclair street on Friday around 8pm.

He was allegedly found in possession of a knife and held in custody to appear at court.

Around 6.20pm on Saturday police were dealing with a separate matter on Newton street in Greenock when they were informed of a male who was believed to have a knife.

Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “On searching the area they observed a male matching the description who was stopped and searched whereby he was allegedly found in possession of a lock-back knife.”

On being arrested, the 27-year-old allegedly made homophobic remarks against the officers and was held in custody.

Also on Saturday, around 9:40pm, police were flagged down on Inverkip Street in Greenock and informed that a knife had allegedly fallen from the pocket of a male who had been ejected from Chaplins Bar.

After a short foot chase, the 19-year-old suspect was arrested and searched and a knife was allegedly recovered. He was held in custody to appear at court.
