AN 80-YEAR-old woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed of her bag in upper Port Glasgow.

She was walking in Cromdale Road, Slaemuir around 12.15pm yesterday (Tuesday) when a man approached her and allegedly struggled violently with her.

The victim was not injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Police traced and arrested a 40-year-old who has been charged with robbery and held in custody to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court.

The woman’s property was recovered.

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses to contact them on 101.

In a particular they are keen to speak the driver of a vehicle who stopped and spoke to the woman shortly after the incident and the driver of a grey Ford Focus who the suspect spoke to in Marloch Avenue.
