‘UNLOVED’ greenspace between a Greenock housing estate and a major new residential development is set to be turned into parkland.

Link Housing, which is building around 200 homes at the former Ravenscraig Hospital site, has applied for permission to carry out landscape enhancement works on land adjacent to Pennyfern Road and Inverkip Road.

A statement sibmitted to Inverclyde Council explains: “As part of the ongoing development works at the former Ravenscraig Hospital site Link Group are looking at a programme of landscape enhancement works outwith the original development boundary but within their ownership boundary.

“The proposals adjacent to Pennyfern Road look to enhance connections to surrounding neighbourhoods, enhance biodiversity and give the area a general tidy-up for what has become an unloved and untidy section of the site, as part of our community benefits programme.

“The mature trees along the boundary of our site will be retained with the removal of some of the smaller trees to allow more sunlight into the rear gardens of the properties which bound the site as requested by a number of residents living along this edge.

“Further into our site, we are looking to reprofile the ground to create some sculptural landforms through raising the existing ground levels. The slope of these landforms will be planted with a mix of native trees.

“The terrace at the top of the slope will be planted with a longer grass seed mix that will provide an informal space for walking.”

Link wrote to all the nearby residents explaining its plans and received two responses, both of which were supportive.
