Inverclyde Now Logo COUNCIL Working To Reopen Majority Of Area’s Playparks

6 July, 2020 | Local

NEARLY all of Inverclyde’s play areas are set to re-open by the end of this week.

Children were officially able to enjoy play parks at 12 locations from last week and Inverclyde Council is working towards most of the rest being open by late afternoon on Thursday 9 July.

There are around 50 play areas in Inverclyde. Two will not be re-opening — the play area at the Walled Garden in Gourock because it is in an enclosed space and the facility at Quarrier Street because of nearby construction work and associated site traffic.

Play areas already open are at Ailsa Road, Battery Park, Birkmyre Park (Kilmacolm), Boglestone, Coronation Park, Fox Street, Inverkip community centre, King Street (Gourock), Leven Road, Sir Michael Street, Wellpark and Wemyss Bay community centre.

Councillor Michael McCormick, convener of Inverclyde Council’s environment and regeneration committee, said: “We are increasingly getting back to something that people recognise as a semblance of normality. The hard work that the whole community put in during the lockdown is now starting to pay off.

“But we haven’t wiped out the virus yet and there is still the chance of a second wave of infections if we let our guard down. People still need to take precautions to protect themselves and others from catching Covid-19.

“We will be putting up signs asking people to make sure that children use hand sanitiser before and after they play on the equipment. People should also still follow the two-metre (six feet) social distancing guidelines.”
