A DELIVERY driver was robbed of his van at gunpoint in Port Glasgow.

He was approached by a man with what appeared to be a firearm in Oronsay Avenue around 11.30pm on Saturday.

The robber was wearing a scarf over his face and demanded the driver get out of the vehicle — a Mercedes Sprinter with Morton’s Rolls livery on the side.

The driver did as he was told and ran off. He was uninjured but was left badly shaken by the incident.

The van was driven off twoards Rona Avenue and, shortly after midnight, police were alerted to a vehicle fire in Pladda Fields near Arran Avenue.

Officers attended and believe this vehicle was the stolen van. It has been seized and will be examined for any forensic opportunities.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie said: “We are in the process of checking CCTV footage for any additional information on the incident and the occupants of the van.

“I am appealing to local residents in Oronsay Avenue and near to Pladda Fields, Port Glasgow to contact us if they saw or heard anything from their homes.

“In particular, if anyone saw a light coloured vehicle being driven around these areas during the time noted.

“Also, anyone with dash-cam or private CCTV, is asked to contact us. Any small piece of information could prove vital in our enquiries as we work to establish the motive of this crime.”

Witnesses should call 101, quoting incident number 3783. Alternatively, Crimestoppers, to whom information can be given anonymously, can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
