COUNCIL To Make Changes To Bin Collections

BIN collections in Inverclyde will change from next week as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

From Monday 30 March until further notice, there will be a weekly uplift of black/grey bins on people’s normal bin collection days and blue (recycling) and green (food waste) bin collections will be suspended.

All waste to be collected should be placed in the black/grey bin. No side or excess waste will be taken away.

Blue bins which are due for uplift from Monday 30 March to Friday 4 April will still be emptied and then the service will be put on hold until further notice.

Brown bins (garden waste) with permits should be placed out on normal collection days and will be collected by the same vehicle uplifting black/grey bins.

Brown bins without a permit will not be collected. The sale of permits is now suspended until further notice.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “We appreciate the temporary loss of food waste and recycling collections will cause a level of inconvenience to people, but introducing a weekly black bin service will hopefully make up for that.

“Changes to waste collections have been enforced because of the coronavirus pandemic, which is affecting staffing levels and resources in all walks of life.

“These are temporary arrangements until further notice and designed to ensure bins continue to be emptied as frequently as possible.”
