Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s education and communities committee, said: “So many normal things have been put on hold because of Covid 19. We’re pleased to say that proud parents can now register the birth of their children again but we are still having to take precautions to stop Covid 19 spreading.

“We are starting to see real progress in containing the virus thanks to the hard work everyone in the community has put in during the lockdown. But we can’t afford to let our guard down now.

“The council’s customer service centre is still closed to the public so parents or guardians will only be allowed in at their allotted time. We’re asking people not come too early as they’ll have to wait outside. The appointment should take no more than 30 minutes.

“Only a parent, both parents or the baby’s guardian can attend the scheduled appointment, so we’re asking people not to bring anyone else with them.”
