TENNIS -- Entries Sought For Championships
THE 64th Greenock and District Tennis adult championships take place over the fortnight from Monday 16 to Saturday 28 July.
The finals take place at Ardgowan Tennis Club in Greenock on Friday evening 27 July and Saturday 28 July.
In addition to the adult events, there will be under-18 boys’ and under-18 girls’ singles competitions with junior events taking place later in the summer, organised by Tennis Inverclyde.
Committee chairman Chris Jewell said: “Once again, we are looking forward to successful championships and encourage all players from all the clubs involved to enter as many of the competitions as they can. These championships are sure to again provide many exciting matches.
“This year, because of the generosity of a sponsor, all competitions are free to enter with only an association fee of £2 per player, regardless of the number of categories they enter for. This is great news and hopefully will encourage greater participation.”
The clubs involved are Ardgowan and Fort Matilda in Greenock, Bishopton, Kilmacolm and Largs. Players with a normal Inverclyde residential address who may be members of other clubs can enter.
The championships include men’s and ladies’ singles and doubles plus mixed doubles, veterans’ singles and veteran men’s and mixed doubles, plus the under-18 singles events for boys and girls. The referee will be longstanding Fort Matilda player Raymond Norris.
Entry forms are available from all the clubs involved or can be obtained by email from Chris Jewell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . They require to be submitted and received for the adult competitions by Monday 9 July with the draws announced on Thursday 12 July.
