THE poor weather usually spells trouble for football and results in postponed matches, but a local six-a-side league has seen the number of teams taking part increase.
THE organisers of Gourock Youth Athletic Club’s soccer sevens tournament were almost certain, following the torrential rain for the entire day on Sunday, that the pitch would have been unplayable for Monday night.
THERE are only two league games remaining in the Gourock Youth Athletic Club soccer sevens tournament before finals day play-offs and some of the top teams are starting to feel the pressure.
MONDAY night saw the start of the second half of the Gourock YAC Sevens Tournament but, as usual there were lots of missing players because of the holidays.

ARDGOWAN Club hosted their annual Ladies Open Triples Competition when 24 teams from Ayrshire, Argyll, Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire plus many from Inverclyde took part in the all-day competition.
THE heavy rain on Monday fortunately let up allowing play to go ahead in the evening when players came out in force at Gourock Youth Athletic Club’s soccer sevens.

THIS year’s Gourock Youth Athletic Club sevens tournament got off to a cracking start on Monday night and the players didn’t let the rain spoil their night of football.

PORT Glasgow Otters are proud that two of the younger members of the swimming squad have been selected to represent Scotland in the British Junior Championships.
SEVERAL of the younger members of Port Glasgow Otters Swim team were in action recently at Grangemouth as they had qualified for the Scottish National Schools Championships.
The “Young Ones” played this team for the third time in four weeks and thought it was just a matter of turning up after defeating them in previous games comfortably.
GREENOCK Ladies 1st XI had mixed fortunes in the league this weekend, beating East Kilbride Ladies 4-1 at home on Saturday and losing 3-0 away to Hillhead IV on Sunday.
GREENOCK Ladies welcomed GHK 4's to a sunny afternoon at Kilmacolm for the first round of the plate competition, after Greenock were put out of the cup by Hillhead.
