COUNCILORS agreed that a children’s nursery can open at Battery Park Pavilion, Greenock.
Members of Inverclyde Planning Board approved the proposal after visiting the premises.
The pre-five facility will be in the disused café part of the building. Up to 30 children will be accommodated in separate areas for two to three-year-olds and three to five-year-olds.
In his report to the planning board, head of regeneration and planning, Stuart Jamieson said the proposal "merits support." No objections had been received.
Applicants Rose and John Swan say up to eight jobs for qualified nursery staff will be created.
In a statement with their planning application to the council, they added: “We have been working in partnership with Inverclyde Leisure and Business Gateway for some time regarding converting the former café area into a usable area for a nursery.
“We have reached agreement in principle with Inverclyde Leisure, the Care Inspectorate and Inverclyde Safer Communities and have all the necessary funding.”
