PostHeaderIcon TWELVE-Year-old Among 26 To Complete Clyde Swim

Anna Kane gets a hug from mum Julie Cassidy

TWENTY-six brave swimmers completed the Clyde crossing, including 12-year-old Anna Kane from Gourock --- the youngest in the 10-year history of the event.

The group swam from Kilcreggan to the Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club at Greenock, escorted by kayakers from the club.

Each swimmer in the Gourock Amateur Swimming Club event was sponsored for charity.

Anna was swimming in aid of the special care baby unit which cared for her cousin Finn who died just 12 hours after being born on Anna’s birthday four years ago. She completed the swim in one hour, 11 minutes.

Mum Julie Cassidy said: “We are so proud of Anna. We have raised several hundred pounds with hopefully more to come.”

Organisers confirmed that Anna was the youngest to swim the Clyde since the current event was started a decade ago although they are aware of 11-year-old twins having done the crossing some years ago.
